Swim Diapers

I'm now offering swim diapers. These are made with an outer layer of waterproof PUL (to really contain the messes) and a soft and squishy layer of Cotton Velour. Bound with FOE and side snapping, these are like little Speedos on a baby! They are so stinking cute!

They should meet all your beach and pool requirements for a swim diaper, since they WILL contain the poop without the bulk of a diaper or trainer.

Prefolds Trainers are versatile

A few months back, I had neglected the diaper laundry, and needed a diaper for the baby. All that was left in the diaper drawer were his sister's prefold trainers. (You can't see pink diapers under pants, you know!). I put one of Sister S's trainers on Baby K, and it worked wonderfully. So, not only do Little Moose Prefold Trainers work as training pants, but, they also work as a diaper. Lay a booster in, and you've just increased your wetness protection.

But wait, it gets better:) (Don't I sound like an infomercial.) I've had several customers tell me that Little Moose Prefold Trainers work well as a swim diaper also. Now, for the money minded momma, that can only mean one thing - savings! Spending $12 on a training pant that doubles as a swim diaper, that's frugality at it's finest!

Making boosters out of scraps

When I make prefold trainers, there is a considerable pile of scraps that develops. While I am by no means a pack rat, I can't stand to throw away anything useful (thanks to my hubby who helps keep me straight).

What do you do when you have a bunch of lemons? You make lemonade, right?

Ah, but if you have scraps, what do you do with them? Why, you make boosters of course.

(And since they are scrap boosters, they are pretty inexpensive.)

What Feedback Means to me

So you're talking with a friend, and you casually ask if they have eaten at the new restaurant in town. They tell you they have, and based on their opinion, you decide if you want to dine there.

THIS is what feedback does for me...it tells my potential customers what you think of my sewing abilities and the quality of my items.

Merry Christmas

So much has happened this year for me......God has blessed me greatly, and while some may not consider my number of sales to be huge, I do, and God has done just what I desired...for me to be busy, but not overwhelmed.

I have had the chance to work with many great ladies in the construction of Prefold Training Pants, and item I will continue to carry in 2011. In order to allow for adequate family time without feeling too obligated to sewing, I will be taking no more than 4 conversions a month (look for some prefold conversion listings in January). If you are interested in a Prefold Conversion, you'll need to convo me through etsy ahead of time, OR wait for a slot to open.

I participated in 2 crafts fairs, and while those were fun, I don't think they are my 'cup of tea'. There is a lot of time and money that goes into a craft fair, and for a cloth diaper sewer, the returns aren't there. I am looking for some more family and 'earthy' oriented fairs, or ideally a Baby related fair, and if I can find one, I will attend that.

New for 2011 will be PRINTS!!!! I will be offering trainers, covers, and diapers in fun prints: Here are just a few of the prints I'll be offering:

I have seriously neglected the blog....but with good reason. On feb 17th, we were blessed with a new baby. Elijah Kell was born by repeat section. He weighed 9#, and needless to say, life is just beginning to be balanced again.

The shop is reopened to custom orders in May. If you are interested in some Prefold Trainers, I suggest you get a slot now, while they are still available. I have 6 dozen prefolds I am prepping right now, and my goal is to have them sewn into trainers by the month's end.

Coming for the month of June is a new item - Little Moose Ones...a one sized diaper designed to fit from approximetely 10 pounds through 30 pounds...WITHOUT the use of snaps...these one size diapers are perfect for the family with closely spaced children.

Happy Diapering!

Lots of Recycled Wool Longies are coming

STORE UPDATE - I have only 2 more pair of Newborn wool longies to sew, and then all the ones I had cut will be completed. Hopefully I can have them all added to the store by the weeks' end.

The longies range in size from newborn to 36months. Since I cut these in batches by color, here's a list of the colors/shades for these new wool longies:
Red
Brown
Dark and Light Brown Stripes
Orange
Dark Green
Black
Sage
Bluish Gray

So basically, they will comprise of lots of boyish, or neutral colors. I do have many, many more wool sweaters I have yet to cut (they are felted though). Those colors vary (lavender, dark purple, blue, pink, green). I'm hoping to have many more pair done by the months' end, as well as a few other items to list, including:
Prefold Trainers
Diaper Covers
Terry Cloth Trainers
Wool Wraps.

Since the baby is due February 22, I'll be taking the month of February and March off for recovery (I have csections) and for our 'Babymoon'. I will not be taking any custom orders during this time (although I do hope I have the energy to work on a few projects).

Happy New Year!

Fleece Longies

First, may I apologize for my incredibly shameful absence....I've been here, and feeling well, but have been super busy with sewing, homeschooling, growing our newest blessing (coming in February 2010) and living life!

Now, on to the diaper stuff...I have just finished 11 pair of fleece longies. I made these longies with fleece from Malden Mills (mostly Windpro, but the lavender ones are made using 200 wt fleece). Malden Mills makes excellent outdoor fleece which is used by many well known retailers including LL Bean (also a Maine company). The Windpro fleece longies I offer are made using a variety of weights of fabric (some heavy, some light), but all have DWR (durable water repellent) applied, making them essentially bulletproof.

Longies make an excellent choice when you are trying to meet 2 goals at once. They offer your little one the cloth diaper cover solution you need, as well as providing a pair of pants. Fleece longies are a great option if you are leary of the care needed when using wool. They can be laundered with your other diaper items, or with your regular laundry, if you so choose.

Have a Blessed Christmas!

Custom Orders List

I have had several custom orders recently. I will make an honest effort to update these projects once a week, say Thursday or Friday.

Works In Progress:

Snap In Inserts to fit Sugar Peas Covers
10 Waterproof Trainers
Pair of Replacement longies (the others didn't fit)
Set of 5 Covers and 2 AIOs - a trade!!!
An AIO and a Cover (for a blog review)

On hold until items are recieved:
Set of 10 Prefold Trainers Conversion
Set of 6 Gerber Trainers Conversion (adding snaps to make changes easier)

I do hope to list at least 10 more pair of longies before the end of the month, so if you would like a custom order, contact me now with you baby's measurements (Take a tape measure (or a string, then measure that). Measure child's waist at the belly button, leg length from between her legs to her ankles. And then, from her bellybutton down through her legs, and up to the mid back wherever the diaper stops. Measure her with a cloth diaper on.)

Conversion of Prefolds into Training Pants (Prefold Trainers)

Has your little one FINALLY grown into the potty learning stages? Are you looking for a great way to use your prefolds - other than making them into cleaning rags? Why not have them converted into trainers?

Little Moose Diapers' Prefold Trainers are made using prefolds which measure at least 17x12 (Preshrunk). If you Don't have any Prefolds on hand, I have some prepped and waiting to be converted. Are yours embellished - they will work just fine! You can have some pretty embellished Prefold Trainers.

I use FOE to bind while creating a snug fit on your little one. With side closing snaps, these Trainers make changing the poop accidents super easy. No more struggling to carefully pull a regular trainer down your little one's legs in the hopes of not making a mess.

There are two ADORABLE models shown - an infant and a toddler. Photos were taken prior to the Trainers being washed, so you can be assured the fit will be better on your child, since the FOE shrinks slighty with the first washing.

Infant shown weighs 20 pounds, with the following measurements:

Waist - 16.25 inches
Thigh - 10.5 inches

Toddler weighs 32 pounds, with the following measurements:
Waist 20 inches
Thigh 12 inches

The Trainer itself has a rise that measures 17 inches. three rows of snaps make this Trainer fit throughout your little one's potty learning stages - no need to purchase additional sizes as they grow, saving you money in the end.

Orchid Longies

Ok, so I might have a bit of pride over these - but really, aren't they the most adorable longies you've ever seen? And while these are longies, intended to be used over a cloth diaper, they would also make a great baby gift for a baby girl.

It was a little tough to lay the patterns out just right, but I think the end product is nice. I hee-hawed over how to finish the hemlines as well...and as I was contemplating putting a rolled hem on, my daughter came over and I noticed the lettuce edges on her shirt - ah hah! I set my machine to a tight satin stitch, stretched the wool as I sewn, and went over it a total of three times.

I have to give credit to my dear sweet mom, who knows how I love to sew wool into longies. When she saw two lady's shrugs that were 100% wool and for a pretty reasonable price, she purchased them for me. On the shoulder of each shrug were these pretty flowers. I was so delighted when she gave them to me. I almost hated to cut them up, but then again, I could envision the longies they would make. I am more than happy with how nice they turned out.

I was able to get 2 more pair of longies out of these shrugs, but they are plain, with no flowers. I have the materials on hand to needle felt, and since I've been wanting to do that, I think I'll give it a go. Since the red and burgundy are pretty girly colors, I'm thinking of felting hearts onto them...what do you think?

Blessings,
Hope
